Canon Inc. is a Japanese company, one of the world's leading manufacturers of digital cameras, camcorders and multifunction printers. The term derives from Kannon, the Japanese name of the bodhisattva of great compassion. Founded on 10 August 1937, it was the first company in Japan to develop and produce 35mm cameras with focal plane shutter and indirect X-ray cameras. In 1970 it entered the equipment sector for companies introducing the first copier on the Japanese market to plain paper and diversifying and expanding the activities with the launch, in the eighties, of laser printers (LBP) and Bubble Jet (BJ), to which numerous other types of products have been added over time.
